We are often caught up with the pressures that society expects and demands, resulting in a world filled with technology and days often spent bound to a screen. Gadgets encourage us to multitask, leaping rapidly between emails and texts, leaving little opportunity to spend quality time with the ones we love and work so hard for.
My work investigates the influences of the computer age on our lives, theoretically making life easier but often directly replacing our personal time. Aspects of this struggle are represented with the reflected images of a computer keyboard, refracted light and shadow, bubbles and colour all influencing and dominating the attention of the viewer.
The sculptures shape signifies a sectional structure of a pie graph, to convey the importance of maintaining time for ourselves in our frequently complex and busy lives, with the glass suggesting the strength required to achieve it.
2009, Kiln Cast Bullseye Glass, Silver Leaf, Cold worked and Polished. H x 35, W x 20, D x 20cm.
